Find the Perfect Haircut :

Oct 22, 2007

Changing your hairstyle is something you ponder every time you go to get a basic trim, right? Perhaps some of you have been brave enough to let the stylist “be creative” and do what he/she thinks would look good on you. Or maybe, in a moment of spontaneity, you have chopped off your long locks in exchange for a bob? The one time I let the stylist work his “magic,” I came home, cried and wore my hair in a pathetic ponytail for months. So for those of us who need some guidance, here we go…

After four long and frustrating years of bouncing from one hair dresser to another, I finally found a solid and satisfying relationship with Evan, my stylist at Thierry Mas Salon. Today, Evan shares his wisdom and tips with all of you who are still wondering, “Should I?"

The reality is not everyone will look good blond, with bangs or with short hair. To know this before you try out certain looks will save you many tears and dollars. Take Evan’s advice to heart and get the perfect haircut for you!

Best Looks for your 20s, 30s & 40s
20s: Evan's been cutting a lot of shaggy bobs lately. This isn’t the famous “Meg Ryan” bob from a few years back; this one is more graduated and structured, not messy, and has lots of layers. It’s very “new millennium,” he says.

30s: Mid-length to long hair works well with this age group. Long, loose layers make for a natural, “I just rolled out of bed” look. However, this look does require time to blow-dry and style . Evan recommends using a round brush, curling iron and a creamy product or leave-in conditioner to master this look.40s: These women want to look younger, yet need an age-appropriate style. Evan advises going with a low-maintenance, face-framing cut, layers, and maybe some bangs. Layers and bangs also help cover wrinkles and in some cases, plastic surgery scars.

Color Dos & Don’ts

  • Natural colors and highlights are the way to go. Anything that seems too overdone or obvious won’t work for you and necessitates a lot of maintenance.

  • Only people who naturally have black hair and want to add shine or cover up grays should go this route.
